I think it is pretty safe to let SC have rw access to the music files
and most people won't care. I'm pretty sure most people using SC on
Windows have a configuration where SC has write access to the music
files.

Personally I like SC to have read-only access to eliminate any risk
that a buggy plugin or security hole cause SC to destroy one or several
music files. However, I also think that most people that feels this way
probably already have some linux knowledge and can change the
configuration as they like.

I would have expected SlimServer to get read-only access to the music
files independent if the music files where provided from a local drive
or through a NAS. The reason is simply that there is no reason that the
SC process should have write access since it shouldn't write to the
files.
