If the suspect files are Mp3, then what we're calling 'ARTISTSORT' would be displayed as PERFORMERSORTORDER in Mp3tag (the actualy ID3v2 frame is TSOP). One possibility may be that you have both ID3 and APE2 tags in the files. I don't recall which one Mp3tag gives precedence to (it will only show you the data in one), but SqueezeCenter would give the nod to the APE2.
