I played with this a little just now. Restricting my comments only to
Party Mode:
- The 'play' button should not do a 'play next'. This is a mistake,
IMO, and pretty much defeats the purpose of having a "Party" mode.
Maybe use hold-play to do play next or (what I'd want if I were
throwing a party) make it something very obscure, so it would be
likely that only the party host knows how to do this.
- How do you start playback? You can stop by hitting Power, and turn
the player back on, but I don't see how to resume playback once that's
been done.
- If there's no way to begin playback, then Power should either be
disabled or mapped to Pause. And hold-pause (Stop) should be
disabled.
- IMO, a nice feature would be to not permit adding a track that
already exists in the playlist. I can easily see a new user to the
system adding the same track several times.
Given the above, it should (similar to Random Mix) keep only X played
songs in the playlist. That would keep the same tune from being
played more than every X songs.
- IMO, Party mode should restrict users to playing selections from
the local music library. And to navigating only within Albums,
Artists, Years, Genres and New Music. In the current implementation,
the playlist can easily be wiped out by playing a selection from
Internet Radio or Music Services.
With what I believe to be the intended use of Party mode, it's
unlikely that these streaming services would be wanted. Random Mix
and playlists would also be undesirable in this mode. If you want
either, then you switch out of Party mode.
Switching out of Party mode could be done in the same manner that
getting into network setup is done now - with a very long hold-left
to get into Settings. To be restrictive, the only setting that
should appear would be the Playlist Mode. This obviously won't lock
the system down completely. If you wanted to do it, though, it could
be easily done by not permitting users to break out of library
browsing and requiring Party mode to be entered and exited only from
the web interface.
