I had the same issue as joggs, nightlies over the last few days got into a 'starting' loop that didn't finish.
I then uninstalled and deleted every squeezecenter related file I could find and installed 7.4-25434.exe to my XP PC. The install was very slow, and now SC tries to start, but aborts after a series of errors: "openport <233> Can't set up the listening port 9000 for the HTTP server: bad file descriptor". It tries ports 9000-9010, 9100, 8000, 10000 then gives up.
