Besides the noise and fireworks it also creates an engagement and
commitment among existing users. It could scare away some new users but
it will also create a large number of existing customers that are
committed to the product and recommends it to new users. 

Who do you trust more when making the purchase decision ? An existing
user who recommends the product or a Logitech sales representative ?

There is a reason why people participating in these forums tends to
stay here for years, I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be the case if the
development was handled in a closed environment.

If we are talking about developers, then you are correct.
If we are talking about structured testing work, then you are correct.
However, if we are talking about helping users with problems and
questions, performing testing in various hardware and software
environment and getting early feedback for new functionality, I believe
Logitech gets a lot of help from these forums.

It's already handled in a separate forum section under the main section
"Developer Forums". This is probably not a section where a new user
searches for help.

If we want to do something regarding this, I think the best solution
would be to just make it a bit more clear on what you can expect when
running a beta release.
