I don't agree with that bug-report. I don't think its a good idea to
have a general user-configuration system. Perhaps some corner could be
addressed that way, but not in general. I can't really argue my case,
but it's related to:

-the fact that the simplistic basic/advanced/expert-user model is known
to have many weaknesses. E.g. even expert users over time grow tired of
tracking configurations.
-it becomes more difficult to add any intelligence (as it must account
for all user-behaviours)
-such systems inevitably adds complexity to the code-base and can be
hard to maintain in a consistent manner.

Anyway, perhaps I'll do a separate bug report.

Could perhaps work. I have my reservations though. Mostly just because
of the, albeit rather trivial, added complexity. How does one choose a
good ordering? What does the wife/family-members say when things aren't
where they used to be? Its benign I know, but I don't know if the yield
is worth it.

Yes, but the menu is fully included in the button functionality since
the only place the menu can be used is from the home-menu, from which
the button does exactly the same. I don't know about the symbol though.
I don't think the total learning threshold would be bad though. Its not
only about "how to find the button" in the first place. Its also a
balance between things such as insentiment, frequency, necessity etc.
Take the iPod touch. It only has a single button with a square on. Its
not at all obvious from the symbol alone that this is the main-menu
button. Still I have not heard any complains about it.

I should add that my post was inspired by the Touch-interface that has,
not a hard button, but a dedicated on-screen button and no Now Playing
menu.

Fair enough.
