What have I done with this tread ? It is now very OT and discusses life the scanner and everything ?
You are all very technical and therefore sort off accept how this works you "know to much" . More of the same: The user perpective is still that ticking some option to change how the UI presents stuff should not kick of lengthy 45 minutes long processes, call it scanning or what ever. You all "know" that dB and sbs works in such a way that a "rescan" is necessary, but please step outside the SQL vs SBS box. Is this what a user should see when using SBS ? I would not care if sbs for exampel in parallell would build 3 or 4 separate dB's to switch in between when the user change these settings. better still would be a dB good enough to be used by all possible sort or UI settings in sbs . Why this fixation with scanning time ? The initial scan can be long it's idealy only done once in the sbs servers life, when the incremental scan works as they should . And if the incremental scan for new music can be performed in the background without disturbing playback it's not really a problem either ? if it takes 30s or 1,5 minutes to add a new album ? Andy has recently fix stuff so nowadays incremental scan don't crash playback on weak servers at all, and I judge it to be actually 10 times faster ? the artwork scan took a really long time for "add new" on my machine for some reason (bad fpu in via-epia cpu) is now fixed . So there is again some wiggle room for the scanner to do more stuff or be more thorough . -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE for the rear ch.
