Whether it's called 7.6 or 8.0 in and of itself is of little
consequence. One of the problems has been the neglect of the bugzilla
database. 8.0 and 7.6 at some point became essentially the same thing,
but nobody has been changing targets.
SbS 7.6 includes or will include, among many other changes:
- the move to SQLite as the default database
- a new, faster artwork caching mechanism (resized artwork is stored
in a SQLite database)
- new, faster software for resizing artwork
- (hopefully) the final and end-all fixes for character set and
locale issues
The "new schema" reorganization of the database isn't going to happen.
I doubt that it will ever happen.
There was a little work done months ago on a "one browser" branch that
would supposedly put to rest the inconsistencies in browsing the
different interfaces. Maybe they've given up on that, or it's proving
to be too much work.
