You are right, I missed the albums.contributor column, I was just
looking at the roles in the contributor_track and contributor_album
tables. Now the current database contents makes a bit more sense.
So:
- Main artists: The artists which has been specified in
albums.contributor
- All artists: Contents of contributors table, possibly with the
exclusion of artists which only appear in the "track artist" role if we
don't want them in this menu.
This means that nothing has to be changed in the scanner process to
accomplish what JJZolx and MrSinatra suggests, it's just a matter of
implementing the relevant browse menus. However, as previously said, I
don't think Logitech will prioritize this.
I've just added a new main artists template in Custom Browse, so people
that want to have two separate menus should now be able to use Custom
Browse to do it. It's only available from the "Download more menus"
download link in Custom Browse interface at the moment but it will be
bundled in next Custom Browse release.
To set it up, you need to:
1. Install Custom Browse
2. Create a new menu of the type "Main Artists" (or "Filtered Main
Artists" if you like more customization options)
As far as I can see, the contents really looks the same as the standard
Artists menu with "Group compilation albums together" option enabled.
The only difference I can see is that "Various Artists" is sorted under
"V" and isn't at the top of the list.
To get the "All Artist" menu, you can just use the standard "Artists"
template in Custom Browse and deselect the "Various Artists section"
checkbox in the Custom Browse menu configuration.
I think it's preferred to only use Custom Browse to get an "All
Artists" menu since the standard menu already works as an "Album
Artist" menu. So the new menu template in Custom Browse isn't that
important, I just added it in case there was something I missed.
