> SBS has ridiculously conflated AA tags as meaningful as to comp > status... they aren't and shouldn't be! lots of apps put AA tags on > comps ON PURPOSE!!! [b]like it or not, thats the FACT. You are talking way over the top here. SBS doesn't get in the way of that at all. If people put AA tags on their albums, everything will act just like any other (below-par) app. They won't have any auto-detected compilations.
If people put compilation tags in their collection, then that tag will be used and albums treated as such in the UI. If people don't put compilation tags or AA tags on, and they have differing artists on an album, SBS quite nicely keeps the album tracks grouped together on the album, instead of blowing it apart and making many different versions of the album. I don't think that can be considered ridiculous. Everyone should be happy - I don't see what issue there can be to complain about. > and much more importantly, it should not use AA tag status to determine > what is or isn't a comp. It doesn't. If there is an AA tag, it doesn't use it to determine if it's a comp. I seem to recall that you were suggesting that it *SHOULD* do this, which *would* be ridiculous - i.e. logic that says "if the album artist is Various Artists, or Soundtrack, or ..., or ..., then make this a compilation album." It only auto-detects an album to be a compilation *IF* not enough tag info is present to make a more informed decision. > how is a WMP user supposed to use WMP and SBS? this is the problem phil > doesn't care about, he'll just say use yet another app or do this or > that, but my point is WMP is a major app, and SBS should accommodate > it, just as it does other apps like itunes. I do care, it's just that I don't see a problem. And there's hardly any other users posting that they have problems, other than you who thinks that other users will have a problem, but even you don't have the problem yourself. It's just weird that you keep going on and on about it! A user can have AA tags that are used the same in both apps. e.g. AA=Soundtrack, if you like. Therefore in SBS, the albums would be presented the same way. A user could additionally add a Compilation tag to the album (and leave the AA=Soundtrack), and WMP would work the same (ignore the Comp tag), and SBS would still use the AA, but in addition also reflect that it's a compilation. This is optional, it's wouldn't need it. Some people like to show all compilation albums, some don't need to know that it's a compilation, but it doesn't have to affect other apps. If the (compilation) album didn't have an Album Artist in WMP, what would happen? Okay it wouldn't be classified as a Compilation, because it has no concept of compilations. I think it would show a list of duplicated album titles, when you go to browse a list of albums. SBS has been intelligent when there's not enough info, to keep the album tracks together as a collection. -- Philip Meyer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Philip Meyer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=95 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84475 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
