I think it will only change how fast libraries are refreshed if you
have defined libraries that are dependent on another library. I had
such library in my setup and then it basically just hanged when you
refreshed the Multi Library libraries.
I don't think it will affect the browsing speed.

Could you temporary try to enable "debug" level logging of
"plugin.databasequery" and then run it and look in the server.log at
the time stamps to see which query seems to take most time ?
In my setup with very few tracks (about 3500) it seems to be these that
takes most of the time:
- Number of songs without lyrics: 2.3 sec
- Number of songs without replay gain tags: 1.5 sec
- Number of not MusicIP mixable songs: 1.5 sec
