As you might have seen from the 7.5.5 release and other efforts, we're  
trying to be compatible. But Windows is a particular case: as we're  
shipping it as a binary with Perl bundled up, we don't provide libraries  
for all versions. We don't expect users to be running from the source on  
Windows. And as you said: it's not a real problem if this is based on an  
outdated Perl version.

But if you're the adventurous or interested guy who wants to run latest  
code, we no longer consider you a "normal" user. We would expect you to be  
willing and able to run a different Perl, because it's not really an issue  
to do so. Up to you :-).

We will move to a more recent Perl version at some point. But it's no  
priority right now.
