Windows and Linux both use UAC("sudo" or "su" on Linux) by default to
help protect from malware. Both are extremely effective at preventing
malware from running when used correctly.
All desktop users should be using UAC or they are opening themselves up
for being easy targets for virus and trojans.
In Windows Server editions the Internet Explorer is set to trusted sites
only so you can not go surfing to random websites downloading untested
applications etc. Effectively blocking malware.
If you trust that Microsoft and nearly all the Linux guys have any clue
you should leave UAC on.
