Well, the problem here is that a) this means you can't really do any bigger changes b) you never know in advance what's going to be stable and what isn't. IMHO it would indeed make sense to at least call out "stable versions" of the 7.8 branch in the future. This could simply be done by calling a freeze on a version that seems stable to those working on it and only fixing issues being reported on it for a while while at the same time opening a new branch for bigger changes. If it turns out to still be called stable after, say, a month we could all call it a "stable version". To a certain degree that's the same thing going on with 7.7.x where 7.7.4 is not an official release but it's generally very stable because no real development beyond bug fixing is going on on it. The point is that there is an issue with the current approach: while 7.8 is pretty stable _most of the time_ you can't really be sure about any particular build as an outsider. From time to time there are changes that break things and if one of these builds is what you install without following up the next few days you end up with a buggy setup. The current approach is fine for those who follow the forum and what's going on but while I deem it quite an improvement in a number of ways over 7.7.3 it's not what I would recommend to, say, an unknown iPeng user. --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* ------------------------------------------------------------------------ pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100759 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
