Looks like I get identical thumbnails with this change. (I'm running two servers from two checkouts of 7.9, one with this edit and one unchanged.)
Please note that this change only affects images pre-cached during the scan. Larger images like eg. on the Now Playing screens are not pre-cached. What image version are you looking for?
