I'm really confused by what you're complaining about (using genre name
instead of name_sort_) and how you claim to fix this.
You actually never clearly said what problem you were experiencing. All
you said was "I'm noticing a worrying tendency in the LMS code over time
to assume that GENRE == GENRE->name". I might have missed the point, but
you don't say what problem this causes.
And the change you suggest has nothing to do with the sort order, but
with the search value only. The bug fix you're reverting is for bug
16956. The changes you revert which you say have been introduced "over
time" all date from 3.5 years back.
So my question remains: what's the problem you're trying to resolve?
What problem do you encounter with the latest code and your column
mangling procedure?
