A simple implementation is very easy to do but it can cost a bit in performance. As for using an option, in sculpt mode there's an option to allow the brush to accumulate, maybe we can reuse that. Unfortunately my time is quite limited these days :/ but thanks to your and Campell's efforts the tools are much more polished now :). Thank you again!
Just a little TODO note here, just in case one of us can do it before release: a nice thing to have is access to the mask texture from the properties window. Currently the only way to tweak the texture properties there is to pin the context and browse the texture.
