It is recommended to play 5 on top with two and four on top with three. But if your daughter is very young I wouldn't play it that way. Moving pieces. suppose the 8 and 7 are allready on top.
And you roll 5 2 6 3 . You can't play 8 8 If you play nine you only have to play the nine, since you can't play 7 If you play 5 you have to play the 11 as well. Even if the 5 is more helpfull than the nine. You might consider to take the one 9 for that reason as it is way more likely to throw a nine. And chances are good you throw a five next time.It all depends on the position of the pieces. Have fun there are some variants too that are worth exploring.
