I suspect Apple merely does not recommend this for marketing, but not for 
engineering reasons. They would like all of us to buy every year a new machine 
and put a new operating system on so that nothing is compatible anymore and all 
customers will do the same and sales go up and up and, oops, the environment 
down the drain! ;-)
