A search group doesn't redo the search, until you change the search term. If you hit the search button without changing the search term, it will load more results for the same search (if they are available).

Ok. After some trial and error, the LOC search works most of the time (as do Columbia and USC) -- the http proxy needs to be turned off in the network system preferences, & it doesn't seem to like reusing the Search Group -- after a search I often (though not consistently) need to delete the group and create a new Search Group for it to work again.
Thanks

The WorldCat one does not work for me, it cannot get the connection. But I found no problem with eg Library of Congress. Have you tried that with/without the proxy enabled? Perhaps you can find some messages in the Console logs?

Hi
I'm a new user of BibDesk and am trying to use Z39.50 search groups.
I can search via PubMed fine & get immediate results but searching
any of the Z39.50 servers gives no results -- the indicator spins but
eventually it says "0 publications in [whatever] search group" --
I've tried all the ones included with BibDesk as well as the OCLC
WorldCat search linked from the BibDesk wiki and they all give no
results. (I am on an academic network at Union College & can access
WorldCat via the web).

I have tried opening the firewall ports on my local machine that
correspond to the ports listed in the server descriptions, and turned
off privoxy, but still no luck.

Looking at console.log there are messages like the following:

2007-05-22 17:55:39.095 BibDesk[627] Error: Timeout (10007)

All of my other network access is working fine.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Derick
