This is the path of my .bib file which is search by texlive
/Users/claus/Library/texmf/bibtex/bib/publications.bib

Since I am using texlive's default settings I have a symlink of my  
texmf folder in my home directory, but this is not necessary for  
other texlive installations which change the default settings.
