You have to choose "preview", one of the few toolbar items. This will  
pop up a window with a formatted bib reference.

You can also control what shows up in the preview pane by choosing  
something from the "preview display" item on the "view" menu. Text  
and PDF will give you bib items.

You need a working TeX-BibTeX setup for this. You'll have to specify  
the paths and a bib style in the Preference pane for preview.
