Thanks for the replies!

I am trying to connect to the Library of Congress, UB Basel, U of  
Zurich (the profiles are preinstalled in BibDesk) and to GBV  
[Gemensamer Bibliotheksverbund] (I have created the profile for it).  
These services do not have any access restrictions. (GBV has a user  
name and password, which is published on the web). And yes, I do have  
a VPN connection to the University network when I am at home.  
However, the result is the same I have described in the first mail: I  
can use all those services from my office, I can use  *none* [!] of  
them from home. I am on the same computer and of course I do not  
change any porfiles when I come home. This is the strangest fact  
about this problem...
