Thanks, I think for this issue I'll go with Adam's suggestion.
147 items have been identified in this way. My startup time is now  
somewhat faster but still close to one minute with the current nightly.
However, this does only affect the first startup after a reboot (and  
possibly after a sleeping phase). When I quit Bibdesk and relaunch the  
program and the bib file are loaded in about 3 sec.
