Yes, that's what it's supposed to do.  Services have no opportunity to
provide a user interface, so you have to be fairly precise in your criteria.
The autocomplete mechanism searches by author, editor, title, keywords, and
citekey, so you can get a popup with matching authors in TeXShop or
TextMate.  You can also lobby other editor developers to include support,
since BibDesk has a public API for this.
