For the last year I have been running Schwalbe MARATHON PLUS 26x1.75
on my beater bike in Baltimore that spends most of it's time in glass-
littered alleyways and gutters hauling groceries etc. from various
local stores on a daily basis, and the Sunday market. I still have
not had a single puncture which is completely shocking considering all
the broken glass here. The tires have excellent traction even on the
wet grass I frequent in the park nearby. I bought them having read
that they were popular with Europeans for their city bikes - and I can
see why! The rolling resistance is surprising low. I think you
really can't go wrong with these.

By contrast, my wife's bike came with Bontrager MTB tires that both
went flat the first time she went down the same alleyway!

I didn't realize anybody kept track of how much tires weigh. I doubt
it will make any difference in practice. I'm sure my bike weights
almost as much as I do - if anything it's a real blessing on bumpy
roads. A heavy bike just gradually makes you stronger. Quickly you
won't notice anymore, until you try to ride a lightweight bike, and
find that it won't stay planted on the ground so the traction &
handling is terrible compared to what you have become used to. - Lee
