I stumbled across an article about the cyclist who was killed near La
Crosse that was mentioned here recently. Cathy mentioned that the
cyclist was riding in early morning ,6 a.m., and didn't have sufficient
lighting on his bike. The article also mentioned that a helmet was
found at the scene and it appeared to have come off during the crash
according to the sheriff's department. It's likely the helmet wasn't
fastened properly, despite the fact that this person was described as a
bicycling enthusiast. If an avid cyclist had his helmet fit that poorly
you can imagine what it is like for the casual cyclist. A hospital in
Massachusets had parents or kids who came into their clinic put on their
helmet and then checked them or fit. 80% of the helmets didn't fit
properly.

Helmet fit is a huge issue that hasn't gotten the attention it
deserves. When you encourage people to wear helmets make sure the
phrase 'properly fitted' is part of that description.
