Continuing the list of suggestions last week of needs I'd suggest if Madison is
trully going to be a Platinum Cycling City we need to do a better job of
maintaining our current bike routes. For example, the marked paths along
University Avenue heading west to Middleton (Alder Clear's District) has had
the same washout debris blocking half the path just east of Flambeau, and
habitual problems with every rain on the rise towards Allen Boulevard just a
few feet from a no sight line pull out from a residence, on a downhill, with
tree limbs hanging down...a very dangerous situation that has been like that
forever. Not only expanding bike paths and marked lanes, but maintaining what
we already have, should be a priority.

I looked at the full 64 page report on the Platinum Bike committee and would
suggest an index for such a large document...some good stuff in it...but some
of the timelines are way out...maintenance improvements for existing routes for
example shouldn't be something that happens sometime next year...but should be
in play now.

Glass is half full, the report is a great start to working on filling the
last half so ensuring that it doesn't get "filled" never to be seen/heard from
again is needed.

  Ride safe, Troy Thiel
