Hot off the press FYI from MGE: 2. Solar PV Lighting Project
MGE will install solar photovoltaic powered lighting fixtures along a section of the new University of Wisconsin-Madison bike and pedestrian path currently under construction along Campus Drive. This project will fulfill the final remaining provision of a 2003 Memorandum of Understanding that MGE and the UW Madison signed with several environmental groups. The MOU was negotiated during the 2003 West Campus Cogeneration Facility approval process. The $220,000 lighting system is designed to collect and store solar energy to power lighting along the path between University Bay Drive and Walnut Street near the cogeneration facility. The project consists of 37 PV fixtures designed to provide dusk-to-dawn lighting without any connection to the electrical grid. This project will offset electricity generated from conventional sources and test the efficacy of off-grid lighting systems in our region. Path construction began in August with completion expected by spring of 2008. **************** Jeff Schimpff "Bus, Bike, Walk or Carpool to Work for Clean Air for Kids" _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
