There are many items on the table regarding snow operations, now that winter has returned to Wisconsin after an absence of several years. We will clear bike racks but its pretty low on the priority list and after, sidewalks, cross-walks, bus stops, post and towing for vehicles, fire hydrants. We do not "shovel" around cars and we would prefer to use equipment to remove snow around bike racks. Having bikes stored over the winter in bike racks is bad for the bikes and bad for snow removal. Volunteer shovelers are always welcome for fire hydrants. I would not expect anyone would volunteer to clear bike racks but they would be welcome.

To draw a parallel, the City maintains covered off-street and uncovered on-street parking for cars. The presence of off-street car parking doesn't excuse the City from keeping the on-street car parking as accessible as possible. As to bikes parked long-term on racks, the parallel continues to apply. The City has to plow around long-term parked cars all the time. They can ticket them, but I've never seen one removed just for the purpose of plowing. Yes, they moved cars for that "artery plow" last weekend (right?), but otherwise, I presume the City simply trusts that the ticketed owner will eventually move her/his car. And of course, car drivers always have at least one side of the street to park on. If clearing racks of long-term-parked bicycles in order to clear them of snow goes into effect, it should be according to a predictable schedule like the odd-even system for cars, and should be indicated with signage, as it is with car parking. Equal treatment, what a concept... ---- Michael Rewey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > You missed the point Steve.
