Folks, if this stuff angers you, please send a message to the person who brought this to you: Senator Mark Miller at: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Then, for those of you who live outside of his district, send a message to your senator as well. This was a bi-partisan pork project; they *all* voted for it.

Your senator's address would be the same as above, just replace the last name just before the @. (E.g., [EMAIL PROTECTED])

I have already berated my senator (Miller) for this. But before berating him, I tried reasoning with him. For years. I put his yard sign in my yard in every election he has run in. I've emailed him, I've written him, I've called his office, I've sat down and had beers with him, I've written an article in the Eastside News newsletter, I've even told him to his face that this was a huge mistake. He likes his highways because he thinks his constituents do. Why? Because he doesn't hear from anyone else but me & probably Tim about it. When I posted information about this a few months ago (when something could have been done about it), there was.....silence. Folks, it can't just be one or two people! They should all be deluged with denunciations for paving over our county. Without an outcry from constituents (and no, bleating on this list doesn't count, except to strategize for further action), nothing will change. Blast them. Encourage your friends & neighbors to blast them. They understand one and only one thing: public denunciation and embarrassment. Working with them, which I patiently tried to do over the past several years with Mark Miller, just doesn't work.

Also, keep this in mind: WisDOT is not at fault (for once). They did not want this project; it was entirely pork pushed by Senator Mark Miller. He used his chairmanship of the Joint Finance Committee to ramrod it through. Keep this in mind as well: Senator Mark Miller is using Global Warming legislation as a mechanism to greenwash his highway pork.

I wanted to add this thought, this is a country road that the DOT defines as a "freeway" now. But in time all the country between Madison and DeForest will fill up with housing and other crip crap, then the road will act more as a beltline in which case it would be nice to have bike/ped facilties so our new neighbors to the north will have transportation choices.

Ann,

As the new USH 51 will be a freeway there will not be bike/ped accomdations on the new USH 51. Bike and ped accomodations however will be provided for crossing 51 at all the intersectins and overpasses with on-road bike lanes and sidewalks. I'd like to refer you to Mary Pamprin-Volk (also cc'd). She is the regional bike/ped coordinator and she can provide you with existing and planned regional bike routes for this area.

What will the bike accomodations be on the new 51 and how will bikes and peds be able to cross the new 4-lane?
