Robbie & Al (Brenda, you still hangin' out here?),
You & a whole slew of other progressive local pols are featured in bright lights as supporters of Mark Miller from his Nov 29, 2007 fundraiser. Maybe you could help us lowly peons out here and contact his office to ask him why he would do this to us.

Until supporters--particularly other electeds--begin holding the bigwig electeds' feets to the fire, we won't get anywhere.

According to my brief look at the current bike conditions along that portion of 51, it looks to me like they at least need a frontage road, path, or other pedestrian/bike accommodations. Because of the lake, Cherokee Marsh, and the airport, there are no decent N-S routes until you get to Portage Rd, which is pretty far east if you are on the west side of 51.

The MPO adopted Complete Streets language in it's latest Long Range Transportation Plan, so this project should have some accommodations. I would say that a parallel path, similar to what was built along Hwy 12, should be included. That would vastly improve the bike-ability of that area.

When is this scheduled for construction? Unfortunately, I believe that DeForest is not part of the MPO, so we won't have as much influence as if we were funding it. But at the very least, you could use the "community standards" or Community Sensitive Design argument to get ped/bike accommodations.

Let me know if I can help in an MPO capacity.
