According to my brief look at the current bike conditions along that portion
of 51, it looks to me like they at least need a frontage road, path, or
other pedestrian/bike accommodations. Because of the lake, Cherokee Marsh,
and the airport, there are no decent N-S routes until you get to Portage Rd,
which is pretty far east if you are on the west side of 51.

The MPO adopted Complete Streets language in it's latest Long Range
Transportation Plan, so this project should have some accommodations. I
would say that a parallel path, similar to what was built along Hwy 12,
should be included. That would vastly improve the bike-ability of that area.

Ann -

When is this scheduled for construction? Unfortunately, I believe that
DeForest is not part of the MPO, so we won't have as much influence as if we
were funding it. But at the very least, you could use the "community
standards" or Community Sensitive Design argument to get ped/bike
accommodations.
