It is clear the city is trying harder this year than in the past to keep the
bike paths rideable. But the east rail corridor path is extremely ice-covered
and hazardous. I think this situation could be improved if Parks were to do
its daily runs (if they do) in the afternoon rather than at 5 a.m., when
temperatures are coldest. I've noticed on sunny days much of the ice is
essentially melted and could be removed if the truck came by at that time. But
by 5 a.m., the ice has refrozen, just a little less rideable because of the
frozen slush.

Hopefully with the warmer temps forecast for the upcoming week, some of the ice
will melt, as it has on the block between Blount and Livingston. But last
night, for my safety (strange to say since cars are roaring by at at least 50
mph (in the 30 mph zone), I had to ride East Washington out to Union Corners.

I rekon I need to heed the suggestion of STUDDED tires, still... the condition
of the commuter path thru campus (from around the W. Washington up to the Park
St Over pass, and ESPECIALLY down from the overpass to Brooks St and on thru is
treacherous. I went down (slow motion wipe onto my butt... no harm done), but
it was nearly impossible to even walk that incline down. I realize the city is
about out of $$ for weinter cleanup, but it seems the UW might be concerned as
well as thousands of students walk this stretch as well. A little sand might be
a nice touch.

For now, I'm taking Regent from Monroe to Main St to avoid that stretch.

On the other hand, the SW path (at least out to Glenway) is just tamped down
crusty snow and easy to navigate. Sections of the path from North Shore out to
Brearly are chippy but not too bad.

do any of the shops have Studded tires on sale? (shrugs)
