I'll bite.
In my opinion, metaposts are buzz killers in the extreme. They should
only come from the list moderator, who will excercise his own fine
judgement and weigh the consensus of the list as conveyed in private
email to him in issuing extremely rare directives to the list and due
directives to individual posters. The *only* exception is when the
moderator specifically solicits metaposts, which is the thin excuse I
use to justify this one.
Nobody in my recent hearing has said that political posts shouldn't
appear here, so we needn't debate that. Somebody did suggest that posts
with links should have some sort of hint as to what content lies at the
destination-- can that possibly be controversial?
