Thanks for posting this, Robbie. Does Trek even have lobbyists? Perhaps
he meant Ken Golden. :)
I made a very deliberate decision to keep this process in the
neighborhood and not specifically alert bikies, Bike Fed, or any stealth
Trek lobbyists. Not that I don't love you all, but I didn't want to
create a perception of "outside bicyclists vs. neighbors," which some
people claimed had contributed to the derailing of the project in the
past. Sadly, Mr. Nikora perpetuates that myth, along with the myth that
the process was undemocratic because the opponents who came to the
council meeting didn't get their way. There is a lot of support for this
project in the neighborhood and beyond, and I have plenty of e-mails to
prove it. One person wrote to me, "You saved a life tonight." That helps
make up for some of the very personal, hurtful things that were said to
me last Tuesday.
I'll feel even better when we can /all/ enjoy a safe, smooth road that
will still have plenty of rural charm and character.
