Beware in rural areas: It does not appear to distinguish between paved and gravel roads. In one Grant County example I tried, it chose a gravel road, apparently to avoid a small amount of distance and additional climbing on another low-traffic road. None of the Google maps show road surface type, so it's probably not in their database. It does seem to fairly well avoid heavy traffic. In my example, it chose the gravel road instead of a somewhat shorter, but busy, county highway with almost exactly the same elevation gain.
