Hello all,

Left our home on the near West side at about 445 for a quick hour and a half
ride before dinner...I'm thinking maybe 5 dozen plus cyclists (a dozen plus of
that number young children!) and pedestrians on my way out and back from the
trail head in Fitchburg down past Basco...GREAT to see! yes its open..congrats
to the Friends of the Badger Trail and other advocates for making it happen!
Make one of your goals before the bad weather sets in to ride to the tunnel
south of Belleville..very cool! (literally too)

Down the line wayfinding signs for restroom and retail/services will be great
additions...and warning signage about the more dangerous high speed vehicle
traffic crossings...be careful!

Hi All,

Three weeks ago there were still portions of the trail blocked off with
barriers (yet there was substantial traffic along those portions of the trail
regardless).

Yesterday, all of these barriers were gone.  I think that's a pretty clear sign
that the trail is officially open.

Best regards,

Sean

I rode the Badger Trail on Saturday, and it was fine.  There were some signs of
recent work (e.g. the wooden frames on some of the railings) but the trail was
open and very bikeable.

I do hope that at some point they put up signs marking the cross-roads, to help
bikers orient themselves.  It would also be nice to have signs pointing the way
to nearby destinations.  I had been planning to ride to Paoli; but I discovered
that Sun Valley Parkway crossed the trail on a rather high bridge.  I should
have remembered this (I will next time), but signs would be nice.

I biked it Tuesday and went about 20 miles south of Madison and back. Workmen
were putting up signs Tuesday. In fact I saw 2 workmen put up a stop sign as I
rolled to the intersection. I announced that I was the first person that had to
stop at that street. It is open. It is very nice!

Looks pretty good, judging from... ummm... the latest Google Earth

pictures, yeah, that's the ticket...

Seriously, as long as there's no active work going on, you should be ok.

Looks like the rails on either side of the bridges are done, maybe some

painting left to do.  Lots of traffic on the trail in any case.

Is the Badger State Trail finished yet through Fitchburg?  Tomorrow will be

SO nice...a casual ride down to Illinois is tempting.

The Badger Trail promotion site says it's open:

[LINK: http://www.badger-trail.com/] http://www.badger-trail.com/

DNR's web site still says it's closed:

[LINK: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/badger/]

http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/badger/

"The 6 miles from Purcell Road to Lovell Lane, near the Madison-Fitchburg

city limits is closed until paving is complete."

BFW's web site event listing  for the grand opening in mid-September said

it was 1.1 miles from Cty M to Purcell that was not open yet, not 6 miles.

Then there was a request on the bikies list from someone at DNR I think to

NOT use the trail for safety and allowing workers to finish their work

unencumbered.

But hey..winter's coming--so...

What's the scoop?

Thanks,

Dan
