Hi Aaron.

Green was the widely accepted color for bike boxes before Madison decided to
experiment with red. Recently the Federal Highway Administration began
allowing the use of green in bike lanes and boxes without having to apply
for "experimental" status and requested that Madison change their boxes to
green. It looks like green will be the official on-street color nationally
for bicycle facilities (which makes some sense given the long-term use of
green for bike route signs).
