A couple of points on the new bike box on Dayton at Park

Bike Boxes are still an experimental treatment and we have applied for and
received experimental status for this bike box. The Feds are only approving
green for experiments with colored pavement in bicycle facilities. Red is
being reserved for other potential uses. Anyone who has been in New York or
Boston and maybe other major cities in the past few years has probably seen
some red bus lanes.

There are two signs being used at bike boxes. The one that matters is the Stop
Here On Red sign that is positioned at the advance stop bar for motorists.
This is what is enforceable. The educational sign Get Behind It . . . is
just educational. Hopefully drivers sitting at the stop bar will see and
understand what the bike box is all about. The sign we are using is a copy of
the sign Portland used when they first started using bike boxes.
