For some reason, green seems to be becoming the national standard for bike lane coloring, where it is colored. In Portland, OR, they are blue, but the objection has been raised that that shade of blue should be reservcd for handicap parking/accomodations, and I think in some areas (New York?) blue is reserved for bus lanes. If I remember correctly, the objection to yellow is that it would blend into yellow lane markings. In parts of Europe, they are red, but the problem with red here is that it intuitively looks like "no one should be here."
I don't like "green" because it is too easily interpreted as "go" for all users. Would prefer a non-traffic-light color myself, but I'll take what I can get for now. That might be due to my own pre-teen emotional age (yes, I am aware)-- but assuming others share that mentality-- and I think some do-- it's worrisome to think that some of the equation could work *against* safety. Maybe red is a better choice than green after all. Please excuse me if I over-share. -- S.
