I just found out about Cyclopath, too. Cyclopath program info was shared via a webinar last week from APBP on Emerging Technologies for Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning. This was created by a Univ of MN grad student, and the City of Minneapolis expanded it to a program called CycloPlan for planning purposes, with an investment of $250,000 (I'm not sure if this was just for the Cycloplan add-on, or if part of this went to the Cyclopath basic program). Cyclopath is an open source geo-wiki, so it can be transferable although they have run into some difficulties expanding it to the entire state of MN (again, not sure if was just Cyclopath they tried to expand or the additional Cycloplan program). Basically we would need a software developer to get it set up for Madison. I have contact info if this is something we would want to pursue in Madison. We would need to figure out a cost and see how to fund it. If anyone wants to see the approx 15 minute presentation on this let me know, I have access to the recording.
I have the 2/3 mtg on my calendar. Also provides users with a ton of good info on bike paths. Cyclopath has their mapping function available on an Android. I'd like to see such a thing for my Iphone here in Madison. Google bikemaps are okay, but not the best, and often in beta mode. Do we have any techies on this list? If that doesn't work for everyone, I should probably try a Doodle poll... We'd discuss, mostly, creating a web resource that can be used on a daily basis for bike commuters. Michael also has a good idea for tying this in w a podcast about bikes. Would be good to get your ideas on scope and focus and how that might riff off of the BTR. I could see it taking on a life of its own... but I want to keep parenting it! I'm including our staff and Ann A. She knows about bikes, radio, and community engagement. I think we need to figure out what the biking community needs, then how we will provide it and maintain it. It could be a very good thing for Scram, so Rick, I hope you are into an expanded role. Not sure how much time and resource you have for this... Who is in? the end result will certainly be some kind of web-based resource with biker input mechanism. (I think it has to be curated, too, though. Needs to issue something concise and authoritative as its central offer.) Maybe a meeting is in order!
