Whalen Road is being resurfaced between Fitchburg Rd and Fitchrona Rd at
the west edge of the city. In addition, paved bike lanes are being
added to Whalen between Seminole Highway/Badger State Trail Crossing and
Fitchburg Rd.
Weather has been good for construction. If it continues, paving will be
on June 1 and 4, followed by pavement markings and signage in the
following week or so.
There are no bike lanes planned for Seminole south of Lacy in the near
term. These were lowered in priority due to the parallel Badger State
Trail. Also in our five-year capital improvement plan are paved bike
lanes around the rural part of the city (I know that seems like an
oxymoron, but it's not in Fitchburg!) on up-hill stretches, such as
leading to the summit on Whalen just east of Fish Hatchery. I don't
know the detailed schedule for those improvements.
Fitchburg: One of the best places to bike in Dane County!
