My trike with studded tires works great on icy roads, but it doesn't handle the pile of ice and snow waiting at intersections of paths/sidewalks very well.
Though I opted out of winter this year. Just rolled into Bangkok this afternoon; it's a surprisingly bikeable city. Lots of bike lanes, and the traffic is not just accommodating, but actively friendly to cyclists.
