The major point of confusion and disagreement with my car-driving friends
is the question of who has the right of way at intersections where a bike
path crosses a city street. My car driving friends say I have a stop sign
on the path, and therefore they have the right of way because I'm sitting
at a stop sign. On city streets, this is obviously true. I stop, they drive
by unimpeded, and I carry on after they've cleared the intersection. But,
it looks like when a path crosses a street, my car driving friends should
yield to me, after I've stopped for pedestrians on the sidewalk and moved
into a position where I'm ready to enter the crosswalk (either marked or
implied). This is a conversation I've had with many drivers and not one of
them has agreed that I and other cyclists should be yielded to here,
because of the stop signs on the path.

Good discussion.

Thanks,

Eric
