As someone also on the advisory committee, I guess I agree with both
Grant and Robbie that we didn't really step back and get the big
picture on MPO plan.
Maybe the plan could have benefited from more specific goals.
That said, I think think there are some great recommendations in the
plan. And it isn't just infrastructure.
The "3-foot rule" comes up frequently on this list. The MPO Bike plan
has a section on enforcement of traffic rules, and specifically calls
out the "3-foot rule" for special attention. If even a few
communities take that up, that would be great.
Ultimately it really depends on political will. If your city or town
wants to enhance biking, this plan will be useful. Otherwise, I don't
think there is anything you can put in the plan to change that.

Quoting Grant Foster <[email protected]>:
I also really appreciate your input and wish we would have had your voice
during the development of the plan. I often wished for some discussion
about what the plan was actually meant to do/not do. Several on the
committee suggested adding specific goals/targets, but I believe that was
felt to not be the role of this document/committee. I'm still left
wondering where that occurs then? Robbie mentions the Madison in Motion
plan. Is that the right place?
