hi there,

I prefer the IMAPdir depot becuase it has more rational semantics that Maildir++. However, it also breaks with qmail convention for placement of the default mailbox (namely ./IMAPdir/INBOX instead of ./Maildir). Thus, if you need to keep ./Maildir then Maildir++ is probably the right choice for you; if you do not have any legacy requirements to keep ./Maildir then IMAPdir is probably the better choice.

qmail's default mailbox is not Maildir, it's Mailbox.
that's why you have to write something like `./Maildir/' in your ~/.qmail to use Maildir mailbox.

so, letting your qmail use Maildir as ./Maildir/ or ./IMAPdir/INBOX/ does not have to matter to anything at all.

if you want to use silly email client which uses ./Maildir/ as your mailbox and it doesn't allow you to change it, you may have a reason to want to stick with ./Maildir/ instead of ./IMAPdir/INBOX/.
Or as was pointed out in another email message (correcting an error I had made) symlinking .Maildir/INBOX to ./Maildir.

otherwise, i do not see any point to want to use ./Mailldir/ instead of ./IMAPdir/INBOX/.
I think that you are correct: I stand corrected.
