I am only using the /usr/local/etc/bincimap/imap for localhost ie
squirrel mail through and https connection. So just modifing the files
that imap uses should work right. It is not exactly what you suggested
but i thought it should work OK. however it dosnt seem to be working when
i try to log in useing squirrel mail i get this in my log file
Have you tried the basic functionality test on port 143?

If so, could you please try to do a protocol dump on your 143 service and we'll see what Squirrelmail is doing.
