Nick Burns wrote an article entitled "Why Bi Guys Aren't For Me" which was published on <a href="http://match.com";>match.com</a>. The article, as well as some (but not all) of the community responses, can be seen for historical purposes at <a HREF="http://www.biresource.org/109";>http://www.biresource.org/109</a>. Thomas Leavitt, Board Member of the South Bay Bisexual Organizers and Activists, said "it astonishes me that anything so stereotype-ridden and full of base canards could be published. . . .Can you imagine them publishing an article full of stereotypes and racist canards entitled, 'Why black guys aren't for me?'" The article was noticed on May 25th. Letters were sent on May 29th, and MSN sent a response on June 1st saying, "On behalf of everyone at Match.com, we apologize to our readers who found the viewpoints expressed offensive. It was certainly not our intention to perpetuate stereotypes or negative attitudes, and after further review, we have decided to remove the article." Indeed, on June 1st, the article had been removed off the website. Many people were hurt and offended by Burns' article. His tagline included that he is an assistant editor at POZ magazine, and when contacted, they responded that "This article was not published in POZ magazine and has nothing to do with our mission, views, values or interests." The bisexual community is left, still hurt and offended, wondering why POZ magazine would continue to employ a biphobic editor. "The next step for Match.com would be to explicitly include bisexuality, by adding 'either' and 'all' to the 'looking for' genders, because bisexuals may be looking for a partner of a specific gender, or they may not care of the gender of their partner," said Sheeri Kritzer, of the Bisexual Resource Center. "While the article was not published in POZ magazine, a reprimand to Burns to not have him use his status at POZ if he's not expressing the opinions of POZ is in order."
