Hi Matthias,

I assume you appreciate that "detagged" is not the same as "deleted"...

detagging is used when the ISP or hosting company no longer wish to be
invoiced for the domain - it's a useful tool to have... it also removes the
DNS entries - so if you sent your email to the domain address itself, that
will be why it bounced.

a detagged domain is still registered to the registrant - even if it goes
beyond the renewal date, the registrants still tend to be given forever and
a day to renew it !

let me give three examples of domain detagging that we have done ourselves
(we're members of Nominet):-

1. domain detagged in February 2002
2. domain detagged in March 2001
3. domain detagged in November 1999

- all three are still detagged today !

the only advice I can give is to try to contact the registrant, I know
you've tried emailing, but there are two other ways that I can think of...

either wait until the WHOIS is changed later in the year - the admin contact
details will be made available... or write (on pen&paper!) to Nominet and
ask them for the admin contact - they'll provide you with it by post (I hear
they give postal details, but no phone numbers).

hope this helps - if you need any more help, feel free to contact me
off-list

regards

Brian
